Mid-Year Check in

Updated: Jun 18, 2021

A lot can change in a year and I think we can agree that 2021 has gone by super fast, it almost feel like it has been just a continuation of 2020! Chances are you have changed and evolved since the beginning of the year.

A Mid Year Review is an opportunity to reflect on how you are doing with hitting your personal and business goals and objectives you set out at the beginning of the year.

Now is a perfect time to pause and do a Mid Year Review to get clarity on things you want to keep doing, things you want to shift, or recommit to things you wanted to accomplish.

This is a great opportunity to take 30 - 60 minutes to reflect and plan so you can get really intentional with how you envision the rest of your year.

Start by booking 30-60 minutes with yourself, for yourself. Pick a time that can work in your schedule where you can fully focus on this process and be free of distractions. The next thing you'll need is a journal or a copy of my Mid-Year Check In template, that you can download here.

I have breakdown my mid-year review process into 3 phases or parts.

Phase 1 - Reflection

This is the longest section of all. In this section you are going to take some time to reflect on the past six months. To help you with this reflection I have prepared a series of questions that will guide your reflection. We will start pretty board to help us warm up and brain dump anything that is in our heads and get more specific from there.

  • How do you feel about the past 6 months?

  • What went well the past 6 months?

  • What didn't went well the past 6 months?

  • What have you been your accomplishments in the past 6 months?

  • How do you feel about your personal life the past 6 months? What are you happy with and what would you like to improve?

  • How do you feel about your career / business the past 6 months? What are you happy with and what would you like to improve?

  • How do you feel about your personal life the past 6 months? What are you happy with and what would you like to improve?

  • How did you spend your time the past 6 months? How do you feel about that?

  • What did you prioritize the past 6 months? How do you feel about that? Have your priorities been in alignment with your long term vision and goals?

  • Have the past 6 months brought you closer to your Big Picture Vision or farther?

  • Is there something you've been doing lately that’s not feeling “right” anymore? Do you need to keep doing it? What would happen if you just stopped?

  • What’s something I’m sick of hearing myself say, over and over? Like, “I really need to start…” “I really need to stop…” “Seriously, for real, this week I will…”

  • Who’s someone who’s been an important part of my life this year—like an amazing friend, mentor, or colleague? Have I said “thank you” to that person recently? - I always like to incorporate gratitude when possible. You have heard me say this before but gratitude is a powerful thing.

Phase 2 - Review

Here is where we are going to review what our goals were that we set at the beginning at the year and where are we.

  1. What were your objectives for this year?

  2. How much progress have you made towards them? Are you on track?

  3. What takeaways do you have from reviewing your goals? What can you take away from this review beyond whether you are on track or not with your goals?

  4. Are you goals the same—or have things changed? should they change?

Phase 3 - Refresh & Refocus

On this last phase we are going to turn all of this reflection into refreshed commitments for the second half of the year. Is not necessarily a goal setting, you can use my 90 day plan to set specific goals.

  1. What do you want to commit to doing the next 6 months?

  2. What do you want to commit to STOP doing the next 6 months? What are maybe some "bad" habits that are not supporting your goals, or that version of you that you want to become.

  3. What’s something you definitely want to create, achieve, or experience before the end of this year?

  4. What action steps do you have for yourself from this?

At the end of the day while reflection is a powerful tool in helping us improve, no improvement will materialize unless we take action, that is why is so important that we close this mid-year check in planning our next steps and starting to take action.

Every single answer was already in your head. We just took the time to take it out of our head, reflect, get it out in to paper and do something with it to help you continued to make progress towards your personal vision and become a better version of yourself.
